The Green Mile (1999)

TOM HANKS IN..At a Louisiana nursing home in 1999, Paul Edgecomb (Dabbs Greer) began crying while watching the movie Top Hat. His older friend, Elaine, worries about him, and he tells her that the film reminded him of a time when he worked in the death penalty department at Cold Mountain Penitentiary during the summer of 1935. The part of the prison where Paul (Tom Hanks) works is called the “Green Mile,” and the guards called it that because convicted inmates are said to walk their “last mile” to an electric chair.


One day, John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a huge black man convicted of raping and killing two little girls comes to the ward. Coffey shows all the characteristics of a "good giant": he stays aside, barely utters anything, is afraid of the dark and often cries. Soon John discovers his supernatural powers which include healing Paul’s urinary tract infection and resurrecting a trampled mouse. He would later cure the terminally ill wife of prison warden Hal Moores (James Cromwell) who had a brain tumor. When they ask John to explain his powers, he just tells them that he is “taking the disease back”.

12 Angry men (1957)

HENRY FONDA, LEE COBB, E.G. MARSHALL AND MARTIN BALSAM IN..The story begins with the closing arguments of the lawyer in the murder case, and the judge then gives instructions to the jury members. As in any such trial, jury members must make an anonymous decision as to whether or not the accused is guilty. (In U.S. case law, failure to make a decision results in the annulment of the trial). The suspect in the case is a young man who is accused of killing his father. The jury was told that a possible conviction would mean the death penalty (something that could not happen in today’s U.S. justice system). The twelve men move into the jury room, where they begin a discussion. During their discussion, no juror is allowed to call another by name because they are unknown, but, in the end, Sweeney and Fonda's character reveal their last names. Fonda's character's last name is Davis, and Sweeney's is McArdle.
